Understanding Native Speaker
Let me ask you a question – do you ever find it easy to listen to English in class, or in your audio lessons, but can’t keep up when a native speaker is actually talking to you?
If the answer is “yes”, then don’t feel bad. This is possibly one of the most common problems people come to me with. A lot of audio lessons are recorded with voice actors speaking very slowly. This makes it easier for learners. A lot of English teachers do the same thing … This isn’t good. Because it’s just another “crutch”.
Luckily it’s a problem easy solved.
The first and most important thing to remember is of course-don’t worry.
This is the same with everything to do with learning English. The more you worry, the more nervous you will get, and the more nervous you get the harder speaking and listening will become.
Here are two tips to help you get used to fast English. And improve your English listing skills
I) You don’t need everything
My first tip for improving your listening in real conversation is: don’t worry about understanding all of the words.
English is a stress-based language. This means English speakers naturally emphasise important key words when speaking. For example, in THIS lesson, I talked about my friend who went across the pond looking for a new job.
I told you that she said “I’m going to quit this job and try my hand across the pond!”
The key words are stronger. So, here we have “quit” “job” “across the pond” (idioms are one word). These words are important. Because we could understand what she wanted to say just from these three words. So basically, you only need to catch key words. Listen for these key words, and don’t worry about everything else. Just concentrate on hearing what is important, and understanding the meaning.
II) Super Speed your English Listening practise
If you want to listen to native-speed English easily practise listening to FASTER THAN NATIVE SPEED English!I did this a lot when I was learning French, and I found it really worked. You can listening to a English song in mp3 player, and you can speed up the song, but it can be hard to listen. However, your listening skill will be improving faster and you can understand Native speaker easier. And that's all I want to tell you in this lesson. I hope you can be better in English and have a lot of achievement in future.
